This
is the first song done in the current space from start to finish.
Basic tracks were recorded to tape, with vocal and guitar overdubs
to digital. It was mixed through the Studiomaster board back
to digital.

This
song began as a cassette four track recording that was transferred
to digital (through the Studiomaster board), with vocals and percussion
overdubbed to digital as well. It was excellent fun trying to
blow out the preamps on the the 4-track to get the sound as dirty
as possible and pushing the compression we got from the tape as far
as we could.

The
basic tracks for this songs (drums by Martin Atkins!) were already
completed when I came on the project. We fine tuned the arrangement,
overdubbed more guitars and bass tracks, and then basically resampled
various sections and approached the tune as remix. The vocals
were done more organically, laid down in full passes on top of the
parts we created.

This
is one of a series of live recordings from the Sweatbox, a free rock
club in the basement of the Seeley Avenue Home for Wayward Children
(aka Big Buildings HQ). We set up 8 mics in the basement and-
instruments, crowd, PA feed - pressed record on a Tascam DA-38, and
let God sort it out. After 3 months, we were able to sort out
a 19 track compilation through various combinations of the tracks
we captured. I really love the crowd noise and the sounds of bottles
being thrown away throughout the tracks. While not the most
pristine documentary, it's grittiness is an appropriate reminder of
the place it happened.
This
was a mix project where the band already had 16 tracks on ADAT.
We brought their machines into the studio and mixed through the Studiomaster
to Pro Tools. We did five other songs in the same fashion, resulting
in the Letter Bombs EP.
The
Hang Together record was the first to be recorded on the Studer at
Prize Beagle. We limited the recordings to 8 tracks and worked
entirely on tape with a just a few guitar and percussion overdubs
direct to digital.
From
the same session as PDR, using the Studer with overdubs to Pro Tools.
This
was done on a rented Tascam MS-16 1" 16-track tape machine and
mixed to DAT. The final version of the mix actually came about
listening to a soloed reverb return. We were going through a
version of the mix and when everything but the voice and guitar dissapeared,
we completely reconfigured the mix to present a lonlier, more ghostly
version of the song.
Also
done on the Tascam with several other racks of rented gear.
The studio was called the Anti-Loft back then, and was in the basement
of Big Buildings HQ.
From
a series of 'enhanced demos' that all started as accoustic guitar
and vocal tracks. The drums were programmed in Pro Tools, with
a series of overdubs for the organ, bass and vocals.

A
collaboration with Dan Miller (from Minneapolis' Flavor Crystals),
we began with a CD of vocal samples and a timeline from the filmmaker,
but were given free reign outside of that. Dan came up with
two main parts, which we augmented with varous effects programmed
beats. The tempo shift between them is fairly dramatic, so it took
quite a bit of trial and error until we found the right transition.
